Dreams Tulum Destination Wedding

I first met Jennifer and Jonathan when they booked me for their engagement photos in California and it went so well that they invited me to capture their destination wedding in Mexico the next year! I was so excited because I loved their fun energy and I’ve always wanted to visit Tulum. Their original wedding date got canceled like so many other couples during 2020 but they were able to reschedule to a new date and we were all extra excited for the day to finally be here!

Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa

For their destination wedding venue, they chose Dreams Tulum Resort & Spa, a beautiful 44 acre oceanfront resort with lush gardens and jungle vibes throughout the property. Getting married here was not only an amazing experience for them, but also for their loved ones as well! They invited everyone to stay for the weekend and because of their intimate group size they were able to spend quality time together before and after the wedding day. This was my first time photographing a resort wedding and staying at one in general and I have to say it was so much fun! As I do for all destination weddings, I planned to arrive a couple days early just in case there were any travel delays and I’m so glad I did because we arrived much later in the evening than expected. Since I had a whole extra free day this wasn’t a problem at all and I was able to rest up before the wedding and spend time exploring the property to find some good photo spots!

The Wedding Day

Jennifer and Jonathan got ready separately with their best friends and then met up on a pretty pathway lined with lush greenery for their first look. I scouted this spot the day before and knew we had to go there for photos and they turned out to be some of my favorites from the whole day! After their first look, we took more photos around the property and then it was time for the ceremony. At Dreams Tulum, there are a few different location options for ceremonies, but they chose to have theirs on the rooftop of one of the oceanfront restaurants. The backdrop was a beautiful view of the water and palm trees swaying in the wind. The lighting was so pretty at this time of day and we were able to get them married and squeeze in group photos on the beach before the rain started POURING. Sadly, this meant that their beachy outdoor reception had to be moved indoors, but everyone was kept their spirits up and continued the celebration! We were able to sneak away for a few more photos by the beach during a break in the rain and then wrapped up the evening with dinner, cake, and dancing inside. Even though Jennifer and Jonathan had to deal with the stress of rescheduling their destination wedding and moving things around on the day of because of rain, everything turned out beautifully and they were just happy to be married. It was such an honor to travel to Mexico to document this special day for them :)

Jenn and Jonathan’s Testimonial

“Better late than never! I can't express how grateful I am to Carrie for her incredible work as our wedding photographer. Despite two reschedules due to COVID, she remained flexible and accommodating. Even in Mexico, she seamlessly fit into our plans. Rain on our wedding day couldn't dampen Carrie's talent—she captured stunning moments, including my favorite shot in the rain on our dance floor. Her ability to capture candid moments, especially of my grandparents, was a dream come true. As a shy couple, she made us feel comfortable, resulting in amazing photos. Working with her for our engagement and wedding was a blessing, and I wholeheartedly recommend Carrie to everyone!”
